Mission Statement

Make hardware performance so good it hurts.

Goal

One game universe. Over 100,000 players per shard. No seams.

Our goal is to enable online games to complete their vision of having one game universe with over 100,000 players per shard, with no seams. Metal Labs builds the hardware layer that lets studios ship the world they want to design instead of letting the hardware limit what they can do.

One universe

100,000+ players per shard, with no seams.

Hardware layer

Studios ship the world they want to design — hardware never limits the vision.

The Story

At Metal Labs we discovered that game studios struggle to find infrastructure that allows them to build large seamless worlds like what Star Citizen envisioned. While infrastructure providers struggle with building infrastructure for game studios.

We saw that no one in the game industry knew what they were doing, while the only industry who did was in the financial trading industry where they had already solved the problem of speed at scale. The incentives in the financial sector directly tied business outcomes to hardware performance. So they were able to solve it first — the high frequency trading industry already hardware meshed super fast hardware, enabling them to scale horizontally while still keeping vertical high frequency CPU performance.

We are bringing the trading-floor stack to game servers. Same interconnect fabric, same deterministic performance — so good it Hz.

Company Values

Stability

Stability across hardware, stability for employees and stability for clients to ensure every stakeholder involved has peace of mind. In practice we go over and beyond in testing & validating hardware stability. Employees have clear and stable career paths to achieve impact and success through their tenure. We overcommunicate with clarity on every touch point with clients getting ahead of any questions.

High Performance

Mentality in everything we do — it's in our culture to ensure our products are second to none.

Growth

Both personal and company values — we encourage learning and we write up what we learn instead of letting it live in one person's head.
